You have probably heard that you should brush your teeth twice a day. But do you know how often you should change your toothbrushes?
Your toothbrush is the first defense mechanism against bacteria. So If you've been using a toothbrush for a few months now, it’s time for a change.Â
If you experience tooth pain and need to clarify more related doubts, feel free to visit TruCare Dental.
A manual toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months. If you use your brush much longer, then its bristles will become worn out and it won't effectively clear away harmful particles. As a result, gum diseases and tooth decay can occur.
Electronic toothbrushes should be replaced every 12 weeks as they often have shorter bristles. Shorter bristles tend to wear down quickly; therefore more attention is needed than manual ones.
Bristle flaring on a toothbrush is the condition in which it bends, weakens, and twists in different directions. This occurs as a result of the accumulation of water, toothpaste, and the motion of brushing. Bristle flaring could cause gum disease and cavities.
Mostly children squeeze the toothbrush between their teeth. Therefore children should change their toothbrushes more frequently than adults, that is, every 2 months.
